Bio

Mrs. Julie Monkley studied English and Education at Southern Illinois University and graduated with a BA in 1994.  She attended Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, MO and graduated with an MA in Theological Studies/Christian Education in 2001.  Julie met and married her husband Evan in St. Louis in 2003.  She worked in youth ministry full time before teaching Middle School English at Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis, MO. The Monkleys have two children, Ashlynn and Jackson, who both attend GCA.

After staying home full time with her young children, Julie taught in a home school network in St. Louis, and then began substitute teaching upon the family’s move to Sarasota, FL in 2012.  In 2014, Julie began teaching Middle School Literature and Composition at The Classical Academy of Sarasota.  She also served as Department Head of the Lower School before her husband’s job transfer to Franklin, TN in January 2017.

Julie is excited to be on staff at GCA as a Bible teacher. The Monkley family is enjoying exploring Middle Tennessee, and is excited to be living closer to family.  Though she misses the beach, Julie is thrilled to once again experience living with the four seasons. The Monkleys are members at Grace Chapel in Franklin.

Julie enjoys reading, entertaining, being outdoors, walking the beach, reaching out to newcomers through the church Welcome Ministry, and rooting for both the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals (due to growing up in a split household). She has yet to meet a fan like herself that can root for both teams, though the Cubs and nostalgia of Wrigley Field narrowly claim that #1 spot.

Julie’s favorite Bible verse is Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for, and assurance about what we do not see.”
