Stephen Peden » Bio

Steve Peden graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1970 with a degree in English Education and was an English teacher for forty-eight years before coming to Grace Christian Academy. He taught in Metro Nashville schools for thirty-three years and at Father Ryan for fifteen. Over the years he has taught all levels of high school English, as well as world history, economics, mythology, speech, mass communications, and the Bible as Literature. Steve has also been a coach for all of those years, spending forty-eight years as a football coach and forty as a wrestling coach.  Steve now coaches wrestling at GCA.

A native of Giles County, Tennessee, Steve still considers himself to be a “country boy who has spent the better part of a half century trying to escape the city.” However, when asked where he’s from, he will most likely reply, “the 60s. You had to be there to understand.”

Steve has a passion for teaching, for the spoken and written word, and, most of all, for the Word of God. He would most like to spend an afternoon with Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Vince Lombardi.

Among his favorite Bible passages is Psalm 40:17 (KJV) “But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.”
