Deborah Hayes » Bio


With over twenty-five years of professional educational experience, Deborah remains as excited and passionate about teaching the next generation as ever. Deborah joins GCA as the middle school communications teacher bringing a strong desire to help students grow in finding their voices and foster creative, confident expression that is encouraging to others and glorifying to God.


She earned both her Bachelor of Arts degree and graduate certification from California State University, Sacramento in Liberal Arts (elementary education) with a minor in Communications Studies. Deborah began her career as a public elementary educator in California and was honored the county’s Golden Apple “Best New Educator” award her second year in the classroom. Deborah’s love of curriculum writing lead her to write and develop curriculum for companies such as Scholastic, LeapFrog, The Learning Company, and Pearson Education. She is the author of several teacher resource books, over one-hundred published curriculum guides and online educational resources and served as a teacher trainer and national speaker at multiple conferences across the country.


During the time she home schooled her three sons, Deborah returned to the classroom as an instructor at local home school tutorials where she taught Creative Writing, Language Arts and Public Speaking. She believes that public speaking and communications studies are essential life skills and it is her personal passion to provide a fun, safe and inspiring space for students to grow in finding and expressing their voices.


Deborah and her husband, Steve, have three young adult sons and a good ol’ black lab named Ozzy. She loves hiking, kayaking, all outdoor activities that involve water and any cookie-any time.
