Bio

Kandi has always had a passion for teaching and has inspired hundreds of artists and young musicians.  She loves to mentor and guide the next generation with a unique gift of encouragement.  As a passionate Christian, sharing God's gifts with others through teaching is sincerely her greatest calling.   Kandi has been a voice teacher, piano teacher and vocal coach for over 25 years.  She has served as Director of Music, Adult and Children’s Choir Director, Organist, Accompanist and Worship Leader for several churches in Oklahoma, California and Tennessee.  In addition, she has taught private voice and piano to numerous students of all ages including professional entertainers in LA and Nashville.

Growing up in rural Oklahoma, Kandi started singing and playing the piano at a very young age. “For over ten years, my grandparents drove me 30 miles round trip each week for piano and voice lessons,” Kandi recalls.  The sacrifice her grandparents made in those early years helped Kandi earn a full scholarship to Oklahoma City University where she earned her undergraduate degree in Music, Vocal Performance.  She studied voice under the legendary master teacher, Florence Birdwell (Kristin Chenoweth, Kelli O'Hara).  She continued her musical education at the University of Southern California on a full performance scholarship where she earned her graduate degree of Masters in Music, Vocal Arts.  

 

Throughout her life, Kandi has continued to pursue every musical opportunity that came her way.  She toured Europe with the Sound Of America Honor Band and Chorus, toured Asia in the Oklahoma Opera and Musical Theatre Company’s The Boyfriend and West Of Broadway.   Kandi performed lead role performances in both opera and musical theatre such as La Boheme, Carmen, The Boyfriend, A Little Night Music, Oklahoma, Into The Woods and The Desert Song, just to name a few.  In addition to stage performance, Kandi has extensive experience in commercial music having recorded for songwriters, independent film producers, commercials, children's musicals and Disney Theme Parks.  In addition, she has recorded and performed for many corporate events including Dodgers Baseball, NASCAR West, Aflac and Fresh Ideas Entertainment.  She has fronted bands and live shows for The State Fair of Texas and other regional fairs and festivals around the country.  Kandi does live event and studio singing in the Nashville area and she recently performed with Kristin Chenoweth and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

 

Kandi currently serves as the Director of Choirs for Grace Chapel, Franklin, TN.  She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (www.nats.org), National Association for Music Education, Musical Theatre International, American Choral Director's Association and a Kindermusik Licensed owner/educator.
