Charles was raised here in Nashville and graduated from Christ Presbyterian Academy in 2008. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he earned a BA in English. While in college, he was very involved in a campus ministry called RUF and worked at an after-school program called THRIVE Lonsdale, where he served as a tutor, mentor, Bible Study leader, and sports coach.
After graduation, he returned to CPA to work in the Learning Services department and to serve as a Special Needs Assistant. He also served on the soccer coaching staff both as the director of the Junior Varsity program and as an assistant on the Varsity staff.
Following his time on staff at CPA, Charles moved to Corozal, Belize, Central America to help establish a reading program and an after-school tutoring and sports program in the village of San Antonio. Charles believes in the importance of short-term mission trips because it was a short-term mission trip to Belize when he was 15 years old that instilled in him a love for the people of Belize and a much larger view of God’s heart for the world than he had experienced before. In fact, prior to moving to Belize, Charles had visited over 30 times!
Right before moving to Belize, Charles met his wife, Nancy, in a small group at church. Married in August 2016, they moved back to Belize to finish Charles’ original commitment in Corozal. Now that they are back in Nashville, they are thrilled for Charles to teach and coach at Grace!
One of Charles’ favorite Bible verses is James , which says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
