Grace Christian Academy High School’s Fine Arts department is bringing the beloved classic The Wizard of Oz to life in a production that’s as heartwarming as magical. Follow the yellow brick road in this delightful stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale features the iconic musical score from the MGM film. The timeless story of young Dorothy Gale traveling from Kansas over the rainbow to the magical Land of Oz continues to thrill audiences worldwide.
This year’s show carries a special significance, as the role of Oz is played by Warren DeGraff, a student with leukemia whose journey of resilience and determination makes his performance all the more inspiring. Warren, a senior at GCA, was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2024 and has since triumphed over the illness, embodying the true spirit of courage and perseverance. Now, he’s stepping into the spotlight, proving that no challenge is too great to overcome.
“Getting to play Oz in The Wizard of Oz is a dream come true,” Warren shared. “The story is all about believing in yourself and finding the strength you didn’t know you had, which resonates with me. I hope my journey in trusting in Jesus can give hope and inspire others never to give up, no matter what obstacles they face.”
Fine Arts Director Carrie Estes expressed how Warren’s story adds a unique depth to the production. “Theater is about storytelling, and Warren’s story is one of strength and hope. Having him play Oz brings an emotional depth that makes this production truly special for our entire cast, crew, and audience.”
