The National Merit Scholarship Corporation issued the Finalist certificate in February to GCA High School Principal, Richard B. Anderson, to be presented to Hauk.
“Grace Christian Academy is extremely proud of senior student Sidney Hauk,” said Principal Anderson. “GCA just learned this week that Sidney has advanced to the status of National Merit Finalist — the school’s first-ever student to advance this far. This is a selective, competitive quest and a well-deserved honor for Sidney. A hard worker academically, there is so much more to Sidney Hauk. She still finds time to serve others, to pursue her musical and writing talents, and to be involved in her church youth group. Several prominent schools comprise Sidney’s ‘short list’ of applications for admission —any one of them would be most fortunate to receive this young lady!”
Of the nationwide pool of 16,000 Semifinalists, Hauk is among approximately 15,000 distinguished students to advance to Finalist standing, representing less than 1% of high school seniors to achieve this honor. Attaining Finalist standing in the competition requires meeting high academic standards and fulfilling a number of additional requirements in the application process, including but not limited to, involvement in community activities and proven leadership skills.
All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists, thereby earning the Merit Scholar title. The Merit Scholars will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July.
