Matt Murton attended Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta where he studied Business Management. Matt and his wife Stefani have five children: Micah, Macie, Andrew, Daniel, and James and they have attended Brentwood Baptist since first moving to Middle Tennessee in 2013.

Matt was a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets college baseball team while he attended school from 2001-2003 and then went on to play fifteen years professionally from 2003-2017. Matt played professionally both in the MLB and NPB; spending most of his time with the Chicago Cubs and the Hanshin Tigers of Japan. After Matt completed his playing career he spent the next three years from 2018-2020 working as a Baseball Operations Assistant for the Chicago Cubs. In 2021 Matt joined Coach Myers baseball staff at GCA as an Assistant Baseball Coach.

Matt is a member of the Japan Society and works with various non profit organizations within Japan in addition to the Japanese community here in Middle Tennessee as he looks to minister and give back to a country and culture that so richly blessed his family. Beyond ministering to the Japanese, Matt finds it a passion of his to “journey, challenge, and guide the next generation to become more integrated with who they are, what they do, and the world around them.” One of his favorite Bible verses is “Whatever you do, work at it with all your hearts, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24
